“I’d tried a few bamboo toothbrushes before, but they all still had nylon bristles. This was the first one where the whole brush actually felt like a proper switch away from plastic.”

Most toothbrushes use nylon bristles that can shed tiny plastic fibres as you brush.
You don't see them. You don't taste them.
Microplastics can be released into your mouth every time you brush with nylon bristles.
Research has linked microplastic exposure to oxidative stress, inflammation and even cellular damage.
Estimated microplastic particles released from toothbrushes per person per year.
A 2025 study investigated microplastic release from toothbrushes during simulated brushing and estimated an average exposure of around 2.3 million particles per person per year.

“I was honestly worried the bristles would be too soft. They’re actually firm enough to give that really clean feeling, and the bamboo handle feels much more solid than I expected.”

“I’d never really thought about the bristles on my toothbrush before. Once I realised I was using plastic twice a day, switching felt like such an obvious change.”

“It feels like a normal toothbrush, which I actually like. No strange adjustment period and the bristles have stayed in good shape.”

They're naturally firm and springy — more like a traditional natural-bristle brush than the soft, flexible feel of nylon.
If you're used to very soft nylon bristles, they can feel different at first. That's normal. Most people adjust quickly once they get used to the natural texture.
Yes. The bristles are natural boar hair — not nylon, recycled nylon or plant-based nylon.
They're pressure-anchored into the bamboo handle without glue or synthetic adhesives.
Natural bristles can occasionally shed a hair, especially when the brush is new. That's one of the differences between natural hair and perfectly uniform synthetic bristles.
A few loose bristles aren't unusual. If you notice excessive shedding or a problem with the brush, contact us and we'll make it right.
The bristles are natural boar hair sourced as a by-product of the food industry.
We chose natural bristles because they let us remove nylon from the brush altogether, rather than simply swapping one type of synthetic bristle for another.
It shouldn't if you let it dry properly. The bamboo is steam-carbonised to improve its resistance to moisture and mould.
Just rinse it after brushing, shake off excess water and let it air-dry. The one thing to avoid is leaving any bamboo toothbrush sitting in water.
We recommend replacing it every 2–3 months, just like a conventional toothbrush — or sooner if the bristles become visibly worn.
With 4 toothbrushes in a pack, that's roughly one full year of brushing.
I was pregnant with my first when I fell down the rabbit hole.
Reading about microplastics. Watching people close to me struggle with health problems. Looking at how much plastic and chemicals surrounded us every day, and wondering why nobody was talking about it.
So I tried to clean things up. But making better choices meant ten different shops, ten different brands, and endless greenwashing.
I started making the swaps I wanted for myself, then for friends, then for their friends. That's how Detox Rituals was born. We make it easier to rethink the everyday things you use, and choose better alternatives.
